Soldier (enemy) is an enemy in Demon's Souls.

OverviewEdit

They are found all throughout the Boletarian Palace, although beyond the Penetrator Archstone they are relatively uncommon.

There are five types: swordsmen, spearmen, axemen, halberdiers, and archers. All four may drop Moon Grass upon death, most commonly Crescent Moon Grass. All Soldiers are relatively weak to fire and magic damage.

Swordsmen are armed with a sword and a Soldier's Shield; their attacks include a thrust, a running slash, and a horizontal double-slash. Beyond the Tower Knight Archstone, they gain a kick attack that deals negligible damage but staggers the player and will break the guard of any shield with a guard break reduction less than 55. If reduced to 30% HP or less, they may back away from the player and consume Crescent Moon Grass to heal. They may drop a Soldier's Shield on death.

Spearmen are armed with a Short Spear and a Soldier's Shield; their attacks include a slow thrust, two quick thrusts, and a running slash. The spearman is effectively considered to be blocking while using the first two attacks, so it is advisable to either attempt to parry these attacks (not recommended without plenty of practice parrying), two-hand one's weapon, or push and try to break the soldier's guard. If reduced to 30% HP or less, they may back away from the player and consume Crescent Moon Grass to heal. They may drop a Short Spear or Soldier's Shield on death.

Axemen are armed with a Battle Axe and a Soldier's Shield; they attack by chopping with the axe, which deals considerable damage. They have somewhat higher HP than other Soldiers. Beyond the Tower Knight Archstone, they gain a kick attack that deals negligible damage but staggers the player and will break the guard of any shield with a guard break reduction less than 55. If reduced to 30% HP or less, they may back away from the player and consume Crescent Moon Grass to heal. They may drop a Guillotine Axe, a Great Axe, or a Soldier's Shield on death.

Halberdiers are armed only with a Halberd, which they may drop on death; they attack by either swinging it horizontally or with a vertical chop. They are by far the least common type, with only about five present in the game.

Archers are armed with a Light Crossbow, which they attempt to shoot the player with. They have substantially less HP and defense than other Soldiers. Notably, the archers beyond the Phalanx Archstone seem to have exceptionally good vision. Also, the player should note that archers' bolts will track the player slightly, and thus inching slightly to the right or left will not successfully dodge an incoming bolt. They may drop Light Crossbows or up to fifteen Bolts upon death.
